The island's rich heritage is of African, French, and English blends. Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion.l English is the official language,but French Patois is also widely spoken.
The population as of 2010 is 174,000.

As well as being the capital city of Saint Lucia, Castries hosts the secretariat of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.
Castries is the headquarters of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
